Finding yourself in a situation where you need legal representation can be daunting. Find out more about what to do if you need legal help, and what Ko Lawyers may be able to assist you with.

Find the right lawyer

The legal field is diverse, with lawyers specialising in various areas such as family law, business law, criminal law, and more. So if you require legal advice, your first step should be to identify a lawyer with expertise relevant to your situation. At Ko Lawyers we specialise in all aspects of family law. If you are seeking counsel or representation regarding divorce, separation, parenting issues, or family violence, we are ideally suited to assist you. Additionally, our expertise extends to business and commercial law, offering support in these areas as well.

Your first consultation

At your first appointment, we’ll provide legal advice on your rights, entitlements and options for settlement, ensuring you understand the costs and what to expect. From then on, we’ll maintain regular communication, promptly addressing any queries or concerns. For a productive first appointment, share any letters from lawyers or court documents beforehand. If discussing property or finances, a list of assets, liabilities, and superannuation is beneficial.

Legal fees

At your initial conference, we will provide you with an indication of the range of legal fees that you may incur based on your personal circumstances and how your situation may resolve.

If you wish to retain us, you will receive a Costs Agreement and Disclosure Statement that will outline our estimate of total legal fees that you may incur based on our present understanding of your case. Your actual legal fees may be less or more than the estimate provided.

We will update you as soon as practicable if your matter is likely to exceed the estimate provided at the beginning of your matter. We invoice monthly. We understand that legal costs can be significant to most. Our priority is to ensure that our costs are proportionate to the work undertaken for you and that there is transparency in the way that you are charged.
